Scaffolding against homes under renovation in Burnley came crashing down on Saturday night, damaging cars, as rain and winds of up to 70mph lashed East Lancashire.

Police and fire crews were called to Gannow Lane, Burnley around 10.20pm on Saturday when scaffolding against a row of terrace homes collapsed.

Three cars were damaged but nobody was injured.

The road was closed for seven hours while contractors cleared scaffolding and put it back up.

Inspector Graeme Fearn said: "The scaffolding was put up by a contractor on behalf of the council."
