A CHALLENGE which encourages children to develop their love of books over the summer is being supported by an MP.
Hyndburn and Haslingden MP Graham Jones said he was supporting this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.
Last year, 780,000 children took part across the country.
Mr Jones said he was inspired to support the challenge after reading the testimonies on the Reading Agency website.
He said: “The testimonies show just how much the young people enjoy it, and how much parents notice the benefits.
“Parents should take the time to read books to their children as frequently as they can.”
The challenge encourages children, aged between four and 11, to read six books during the summer holiday, borrowed from the local library. When they have finished a book, the children get stickers and other rewards – and everyone who reads all six books over the summer holidays gets a certificate.
