A REVELLER suffered head injuries after allegedly being hit with a bottle in an unprovoked and nasty attack' outside a Blackburn nightclub.

Police said the 23-year-old had the bottle smashed across his forehead when he went to assist a friend who had been set upon.

The victims, both 23, had previously been involved in a row with their attackers over a girl inside the Liquid and Envy nightclub, St Peter's Street, police said.

One sustained a broken nose and a suspected broken jaw and the other a deep gash to his head.

Both of the victims were taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital for treatment but have since been released.

Police said that as the two victims left the club at around 3am on Thursday, they were taunted by the other group but continued to walk away.

They said that one of the pair was then attacked and was punched and kicked as he lay on the ground. PC Simon Taylor, Blackburn Police, said: "This was an unprovoked and nasty attack to two men and I appeal to anyone with information to come forward as soon as possible.

"It was a busy time of night as people started to leave the club but there were no other violent incidents, so this would stick in people's minds."

Police would particularly like to make contact with a young woman, believed to be from the Hazel Close area, who stopped to speak to them after the incident.

She left the scene before officers were able to take down her details.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police in Blackburn on 0845 1253545 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

l Two men have been arrested in connection with the incident and have been bailed pending further inquiries.
