AN application for 260 houses and a primary school in Whalley has been slammed by the village’s housing pressure group.
The proposal is due to be debated by Ribble Valley Borough Council’s planning committee on Thursday and both Whalley and Wiswell parish councils have objected.
Applicants Commercial Estates Group had their first application, for 300 houses, rejected by the council over concerns about the size and scale of the development and the loss of the visual amenity of the site.
The developers said the design was fundamentally different from the original application and therefore the original objections don’t apply.
Nick Walker, chairman of the Save Whalley Village Action group, said: “It matters not how they arrange their houses, they will still have a detrimental effect on the look of the site and the nature of the village.
“Even one house would have such an effect.
“The site should be preserved for both current and future generations.”
