A PUPIL with a passion for all things medieval received a special award at Fearns Community Sports College’s ‘Oscars’ night.
The school hired out the Royal Court Theatre in Bacup for the Key Stage 3 presentation.
This year one of the special awards went to Year 7 Edward Ready. The 12-year-old said he loves everything to do with Saxons and gave a talk to each of the three groups in his year.
He also brought in some of his personal collection so that the pupils could see what life was like in medieval times.
Edward said: “I have lots of Saxon items including full armour, a full uniform and two shields.”
“My favourite Saxon was Eric the Red because he was one on the explorers. I love them because that period of time was so interesting.”
Ruth Barton from Year 9 also received a special award for 100 per cent attendance during the school year.
As well as honouring success this year, teachers paid tribute to Year 8 pupil Declan Gatenby, 13, who was found hanged just days before the awards evening.
