An Asian woman is behind a bid to ‘spice up’ the town after launching her own sexy lingerie shop.

Blackburn resident Uzma Ahmed opened Uzi’s Undies for business in Blackburn’s market on July 8 after seeing a gap in the market for a more affordable alternative to the high street exotic underwear specialist Anne Summers.

She hopes that her lines of french knickers, dress up outfits and suspenders will bring more choice to younger people shopping in the market and encourage more women to feel confident about their bodies.

Ms Ahmed, 34, who lives on Romney Walk in Audley Range, also currently works during term time as a special needs learning support assistant at Blackburn College.

Yet she hopes that if her business takes off she will be able to concentrate on her sideline full-time.

She has also set up shop onlline so that those too shy to buy in public can order anonymously.

She said: “I always go to the market but realised that there wasn’t much choice for younger people so I thought I’d just go for it and spice things up.

“I want to break down this taboo of nice underwear being a guilty pleasure.

“Wearing something nice underneath can make women feel so much more confident.

“It shouldn’t be something to feel embarassed about and I know that there is a growing market for these items amongst younger Asian women.

“I think nice underwear can make any woman, whatever shape or size, feel more comfortable with themselves and my underwear is very affordable even for tough times like these.”

Ms Ahmed hopes to roll out girls night in parties around Blackburn later this summer.

The shop is open from 9-5.30pm 6 days a week.
