A 44-YEAR-OLD disqualified driver claimed he had only got behind the wheel because his disabled wife had ‘nagged’ him to take her to Blackpool for the day.
Blackburn magistrates heard police received a tip-off of a banned driver and stopped Brent West as he drove home to Haslingden.
West, of Princess Street, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without insurance. He was made subject to community supervision for six months, banned from driving for 18 months, and ordered to pay £135 costs.
Philip Smithies, defending, said the car West was driving was a mobility vehicle provided because his wife was disabled.
“Normally his eldest son would drive it, but on this day his wife was very anxious to get out of the house,” said Mr Smithies. “He says she was nagging him and, in a moment of stupidity, he decided to drive her to Blackpool.”
He said the car had since been returned to the mobility company.
