A HARD-hitting film which warns teenagers about the potentially fatal consequences of swimming in reservoirs during hot weather has been backed by emergency services.

The film, made by United Utilities, is being supported by Lancashire Fire and Rescue and the North West Ambulance Service.

Titled ‘Not a Game’ it comes after Thomas Barton, 15, from Chorley, drowned in Birkacre Lodge in 2012 and Dylan Ramsey, 13, drowned at Whittle-le-Woods, in 2011.

Shot from the perspec-tive of a teenager who decides to swim at a reservoir, the film uses video gaming style graphics alongside live action scenes, culminating in him getting into difficulties and drowning.

A spokesman for United Utilities warned that reservoir temperatures rarely get above 10 degrees, are often extremely deep and contain hidden currents and obstacles.

They are also hard to get out of and invisible toxins can cause rashes and stomach upsets.
