THE annual Ribchester Roman Festival took place at the weekend and saw re-enactments and demonstrations about everyday and military life.
The event, which was held at Ribchester Playing Field, involved Legio Secunda Augusta, one of Europe’s pre-eminent Roman re-enactment groups.
People were treated to military displays, the firing of artillery, Roman cavalry and gladiatorial combat.
Children also got the chance to see and dress up in Roman armour alongside taking part in face painting and quizzes.
It was a fun day with a serous message – how the Romans lived.
