A MUM and son team from Clitheroe are set to pound the pavement to raise money for charity.
Kim Connor, 33, and her son Matthew, 11, who goes to St James’ School, have challenged themselves to walk 27 miles in one day to raise £1,000 for New Hope for Children, a charity that helps children in Colombia.
The walk, which is taking place today, follows the River Hodder from its source and will end when the river meets the Ribble.
Mum-of-four Kim said: “We are both really looking forward to it and I hope we reach our target.
“The charity does great work and this would be a good boost for them.
“We have never done anything like this before and Matthew has never walked for more than 13 miles at a time.
“It will be a challenge but one that will be worth it.”
They will walk along the River Hodder, going from north of Stocks Reservoir near Slaidburn, to where the Hodder meets the Ribble near Stoneyhurst College.
Kim’s husband, Liam, said: “I’m very impressed that they are going to do this and it’s great that Matthew is up for it.
“He has never walked that far before and it will be a challenge for him in particular.
“I will see them start in the morning and will catch up with them throughout the day to give them water and I hope to see them across the line.
“They will be setting off at 7am to make the most of the day and to try and get as many miles in before the heat of the day starts.”
