HISTORY enthusiasts at a 120-year-old charity are appealing for other organisations to get involved with ‘Heritage Open Days’ this September.
Ray Smith, of Blackburn History Society, who is also a volunteer at Child Action Northwest, wants churches, pubs, shops and schools to get involved to celebrate ‘Blackburn’s glorious past’.
The series of events will take place from Thursday, September 12, to Sunday, September 15.
Mr Smith said: “The heritage open days enable people to discover buildings that aren’t normally open to the public.”
Harriet Roberts, creative partnerships manager at Child Action North West, said: ‘We first opened our doors to the public in 2010 when we attracted 1,000 people.
“It is always a popular event and this year we’ll also be launching a new history book about the history of Blackburn Orphanage.”
Anybody who would like to organise an open event, walk, tour or talk can register on the Heritage Open Days website at www.heritageopendays.org.uk by Thursday, August 1.
