DARWEN’S 1940s Day has been set for Saturday, August 31 from 10am in the Market Square.
A full day of entertainment has been arranged, including a sniper alley, Second World War vehicles, a 1949 Bristol car and representatives from the British Legion.
There will also be Punch and Judy, a 1940s carousel, face-painting, balloon modelling, a magic show and children’s games.
Stalls will be set up by local history and heritage group Darwen Days, as well as a Dambusters mini museum, ‘guess the weight of the cake’ and ‘guess the name of the doll’ challenges.
Food stalls will sell potato hash, black peas and sarsaparilla.
The main stage will be compered by Mike Falcon who will introduce singers Linda Dee, Bethany Turnbull, Ricky Lee and Vicky Rothwell, ukulele player Natasha Jones, Winston Churchill impersonator Robert Burns, the Second World War Aero Engine Society, and a Home Guard Drill Display.
