SANDWICHES: You know you’re on to a winner when it takes more than one attempt to eat.
That was certainly the case for me after a trip to The Eatin’ Place and Takeaway near Whitebirk.
I drive along Burnley Road to work most days, so I was pleased to see another eaterie pop up en route.
I try to make my own lunch as often as possible. But sometimes there’s just no time, and sometimes you just have to treat yourself. Whenever I do venture out of town for lunch, one thing I have noticed a struggle with is parking. But there are no such concerns here, there is ample space off-road.
The food options are almost endless too – starting with whether you want to eat in or takeaway, as the name suggests.
With a tempting breakfast menu, panninis, pies and daily specials – including fish, chips and peas this Friday for just £3.50 – I’m sure I’ll be back to make use of the country kitchen dining area.
I ordered turkey salad on a brown baton. Freshly made in front of me, it came with the usual suspects – lettuce and tomato, with a dash of red onion and sliced peppers to accompany the generous helping of sliced cold turkey.
Fresh fruit salad with cream was marked up as a Wednesday special at £2. Without cream it cost £1.60 and went down well as a mid-morning snack.
Add in a bottle of water and I was pleasantly surprised that the lot came in at under £5, and there was service with a smile too.
