A SAFE haven for clubbers in need of medical help for minor injuries or a listening ear has been saved.
The future of the Retreat 'n' Recover Centre, in Hammerton Street, was thrown into doubt when it was forced to close around two weeks ago.
It has been thrown a lifeline after funding was made available via the Clinical Commissioning Group’s Innovation Fund.
The service will re-open on Monday and it is hoped Burnley's street pastors will move back in soon.
The focus for the centre initially will be the service it provides on Friday and Saturday evenings in town, where nurses are available to deliver basic triage treatment to victims of late-night disorder, or who are suffering the effects of alcohol or drugs.
However, plans for the centre in the future include it being the home of the street pastors, as well as a meeting room for charities and other organisations such as the veterans’ association, Inspire.
It will also become a one-stop advice shop on domestic violence, motorbike nuisance, family services and much more.
The street pastors are a team of volunteers who patrol Burnley town centre on Friday and Saturday nights helping people and ensuring they are able to get home.
An official re-launch of the building is expected to take place on Monday where organisations which use or contribute to the building will be able to celebrate the re-opening.
Coun Tony Harrison, Burnley Council’s executive member for community services said: “We are very pleased to see the centre re-opening.
“It has been a vital resource for the town centre and the people involved there have done a brilliant job.
“It is excellent news that the CCG is funding it. It is a service that has prevented a lot of people from turning up at A&E drunk.”
