CALICO Housing has teamed up with the Pennine Community Credit Union (PPCU) to promote safer ways of borrowing, and saving, money.
The group, based in Croft Street, Burnley, said it wanted to develop closer links with the PPCU after it saw the struggles faced by many tenants.
Calico also recently launched its Money Wise service, which provides financial advice and support to help tenants settle into their new home.
Helen Roberts, income and financial inclusion manager for Calico, said: “We’ve seen many customers struggling to cope financially since the arrival of the Under-Occupancy Ruling, and other welfare reforms.
“If people have severe money worries, payday loan companies may seem like an appealing option.
“However, there are other ways to borrow money affordably which people should consider.
“Organisations like PCCU are here to help provide people find easy access to viable alternatives.”
