A SERVICE to mark the end of a Girls’ Brigade group has taken place in Barnoldswick.
The 1st Barnoldswick Girls’ Brigade, which met in St Andrew’s Methodist Church, in Moseley Street, has folded after struggling to find young members.
The group started in 1957 when it was captained by Kathleen Hargreaves, and attracted up to 50 members a week in its prime.
Current captain Heather Broughton, a member for 50 years, handed the company flag back to the church at a thanksgiving ceremony last week.
She said it had been a rewarding experience to work with the youth of Barnoldswick for that time.
