A DARWEN decorator has won a place on the Prince’s Foundation Building Skill in Craft programme.
Matthew McKeown, a level three NVQ painting and decorating student at Accrington and Rossendale College, was selected after a competitive application process and will be sponsored through the course by paint firm Dulux.
The Prince’s Foundation programme will offer Matthew the opportunity to build on his skills and knowledge of traditional and sustainable building techniques through practical experience and help him understand how they fit into broader planning, design and building contexts.
On completing the scheme, he will gain a level three NVQ in heritage skills.
Matthew said: “I had read a lot about this apprenticeship during my time at college and decided to apply as it covered such a wide range of subjects.
“It looked to be an unmissable learning experience and I am particularly looking forward to understanding more about the architecture of buildings and getting some hands-on experience.”
