PUPILS from a Rawtenstall primary school scooped top prize in an environmental competition held by Lancashire County Council.
The team of four from St Mary’s CE Primary School also proved they were the most clued-up on road safety issues to win the 2013 Big Safe Green Challenge quiz.
They fended off strong challenges from Barrowford School, Wellfield Methodist and Anglican Church School in Burnley and Gisburn Primary School in the competition held at Burnley FC’s Turf Moor stadium.
Students used a hand-held interactive system called Qwizdom to answer questions.
Vivien Clayton, of the safer travel team at LCC, said: “This is the sixth year we've held this quiz because it's a really good way to motivate children to learn about road safety and how the simple decisions we all make every day affect our local environment. Schools have a vital role to play in equipping pupils for a world in which there is ever greater pressure on our natural resources.”
