A BLACKBURN teenager who became the UK's youngest female to be disarmed using a police Taser has had her case adjourned.

The 15-year-old girl, who cannot be named by order of a court, was due to be sentenced yesterday, having admitted charges of making a threat to kill, false imprisonment and having an offensive weapon - a knife.

But her case was adjourned to a date to be confirmed, for a pre-sentence report to be compiled by the probation service.

The girl was remanded to secure accommodation.

The offences were committed in the King Street area of Blackburn on August 27 when the girl was seen to take Edward Sweeney hostage, and then threatened to slit his throat with what police described as a "large kitchen knife".

Officers from the Specialist Armed Response Unit said they took the decision to deploy the Taser when the situation became critical and the girl said she was going to stab the man.

The Taser incapacitates its target by delivering a 50,000 volt charge.

The girl is the youngest person in Lancashire, and only the second youngest in the UK to a 14-year-old Thames Valley boy, to have been targeted with the device.
