A DRUG addict who took part in a raid on a property in Colne has been locked up for a total of 10 weeks.
Burnley magistrates were told how young dad Daniel Anthony Ryder, 20, was with an accomplice when they deliberately targeted Primet House on May 28.
He had been subject to a suspended jail term made by Blackburn justices for using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, last October 5, at the time.
Ryder, of Clegg Street, Haslingden, was said to have struck on impulse and cannabis was behind it. He had a record, which included breaches of court orders.
The defendant, who is the primary carer for his mother, admitted burglary other than in a dwelling with intent to steal and committing another offence during the operational period of the suspended term. The bench, who told Ryder he had tried to address his addiction, said the prison term was punishment and for protection of the public.
Ryder's solicitor, Michelle Stewart, told the hearing his mother suffered from long-term spinal problems and may be facing surgery. He assisted her on a daily basis.
Miss Stewart said it would not be in the interests of justice to activate the suspended sentence . The defendant had made progress and custody would knock back the efforts he had made.
