HUNDREDS of prospective apprentices flocked to an event at Accrington Town Hall, where a range of apprenticeships and training places were up for grabs.
Youngsters aged 16-24 spoke to employers and training providers to get expert advice and one-to-one support in applying for apprenticeship vacancies.
Many had on-the-spot interviews and also got the chance to try out a range of skills and trades, including dentistry, joinery, painting and decorating, childcare and catering.
Council leader, Coun Miles Parkinson, said: “The event was really well attended and lots of people tried their hand at a range of skills and trades. I’d like to say a big thank you to the organisers, and a special thanks to Accrington JobcentrePlus for all their support.”
Hyndburn MP Graham Jones opened the event, and said: “Organising this apprenticeships fair is part of the Council’s determination to focus on what really matters. It was a wonderful opportunity for young people to seek apprenticeships and meet employers face to face. With so many young people unemployed, it’s an issue that needs to be addressed.”
