CUBS from Whalley will be shown Clitheroe’s town regalia when they visit the town hall on Thursday, June 27.
Boys and girls aged seven to ten will be shown around the building by town mayor Coun Kevin Horkin and learn about the regalia’s history.
The town mace, which is used for official functions, is one of only two exact copies, albeit on a slightly smaller scale, of the House of Commons mace.
Among the town’s collection is a chalice which was given to St James’ Church by Queen Mary.
Whalley cub leader Judith Wells said: “As a pack we have just completed the Local Knowledge Activity Badge.
“One of the requirements of the badge was to ‘find out about a famous person, past or present, who lived in or near where you live’.
“With this in mind, even though we have finished the badge, we thought it would be interesting for the Cubs to visit the mayor's parlour to see and hear all about the fascinating regalia and to meet the present mayor.”
Coun Kevin Horkin said: “I’m delighted to welcome people to the town hall to show the collection. It’s great to talk to young people about history and engage with them.”
