A SHOPLIFTER from Burnley has been given a suspended jail sentence after he admitted five thefts.
Robert Paul Jackson, of Colne Road, to Burnley Magistrates' Court he stole £44 of chocolate from B&M Bargains on June 1.
He also pleaded guilty to taking razor blades worth £138 from the Tesco store in Centenary Way on June 24.
Jackson, who is unemployed, said he stole the items with the intention of selling them on to fund travel to Todmorden, where his mother lives.
He has recently acted as her carer after his father was seriously injured in a car crash in Leeds.
He received nine weeks in jail for three other historic thefts, three weeks for breaching bail conditions, three weeks for stealing the razor blades and three weeks for breaching the terms of a conditional discharge he was handed in May.
His prison term was suspended for one year and he must also carry out 80 hours of unpaid community work.
