A MEMORIAL bench has been placed in the grounds of a high school to celebrate the life of a former pupil.
Pupils in year 11 at St Augustine’s RC High School in Billington created a cafe in school and made cakes and biscuits which were sold to collect cash for Sadie’s Pot of Gold.
Sadie Kearns Banks Musgrove, 20, of Hollies Road, Wilpshire, died from leukaemia on December 29 2007, 13 days after she married her childhood sweetheart Matthew.
Her family and friends set up Sadie's Pot of Gold in her memory to help young people and their families who are battling the disease.
With some of the proceeds of the cake sale, pupils also decided to buy the seat to remember Sadie.
Headteacher Michael Wright said: “Sadie’s Pot of Gold is a charity that is close to the heart of St Augustine’s and, for a number of years, the pupils have supported this cause through a variety of fundraising activities.
“This year, we decided to place a bench in our garden area as permanent reminder of Sadie, who everyone remembers as a fun-loving teenager.”
The garden was partly funded by the Ribble Valley Children’s Trust which provided a grant for £5,000 to support the project.
