FIREFIGHTERS rescued an adventurous teenage girl from a tree after she ventured too far.
Crews were called to help the 13-year-old who had been playing with friends making home-made rope swings in a sycamore.
After one of the swings became caught in a high branch, the girl climbed up to a height of 25 feet but then became trapped. Firefighters who rescued the girl commended her friends who advised her to stay put and called the fire service.
The youngsters had been playing at Railton Avenue, off Livesey Branch Road, Blackburn, when she became stuck.
Blackburn crew manager Dave Hilliard said: “The rope swings themselves were safe and the children had been having a nice time playing outside after school.
“One of the young girls was particularly good at climbing trees and when a swing became caught in branches she has gone up to get it. She has climbed so quickly that before she has realised she has been as high as 25 feet off the ground.
“She hadn’t realised how high she was and was afraid of falling. Her friends very sensibly called us to help instead of encouraging her to climb down.
“Her mother was at the scene and was very relieved when she came down.”
