CONTROVERSIAL proposals for a nursery have been approved.
Neighbours opposed the plan to convert the derelict Bridge Inn pub in Hapton into a nursery, citing concerns around road safety and the loss of a green spaces.
They voiced worries at a council planning meeting but councillors voted to allow it to go ahead.
Councillor Jonathan Barker, who represents Hapton ward, said: “The majority of vehicles coming into or out of Hapton on Manchester Road do not stick to the speed limit of 30mph.
“When you factor in the number of large lorries and buses that pass through Hapton during the day, many residents still feel that the nursery will be placed on a dangerous section of road. This is an accident waiting to happen.
“The residents and parish council would welcome a nursery in the local area but feel this site is not a appropriate location for such a facility.”
