A LARGE area of scrubland at a quarry has been cleared by volunteers to allow wild plants and flowers to grow on the limestone.

The Wildlife Trust teamed up with staff from local firm Johnson Matthey Catalysts to work at Salthill Quarry, outside Clitheroe.

The nature reserve is managed by the Trust.

A 14-strong team cleared a large area to allow the growth of wild plants and flowers that thrive on limestone.

Phil Dykes, Ribble Valley conservation officer for the Wildlife Trust, said: "We have a regular turnout of volunteers at our reserves in Salthill andCrosshill Quarries.
