A BUSY roundabout on the A59 near Clitheroe has been branded as having ‘more holes than an Aero bar’.
Borough and parish councillors met with representatives of Lancashire County Council to discuss the state of the roads in the area.
The so-called ‘McDonald’s roundabout’ and the Low Moor area of Clitheroe were both highlighted as a major problem to road users.
The county council were accused of not putting enough resources into the borough and failing to repair ‘pot-hole ridden’ roads.
Clitheroe town councillor Mary Robinson said: “It is outrageous that the ‘McDonald’s roundabout’ has more holes in it than a bar of Aero.
“The county council are not doing enough to sort out the problem and are just leaving the roads to disintegrate.
“How is it right that the biggest borough in East Lancashire has the least support from the council on repairing the roads.
Ribble Valley Borough councillor Alan Yearing said: “Pot holes in my Low Moor ward and at the ‘McDonald’s roundabout’ are disgraceful and I’ve been told by tourists that they cannot believe their poor state.
“This is a huge problem and nothing seems to be being done about it.
“Even if pot holes are earmarked by the council to repair, it still takes them weeks, even months, to actually get round to doing it.”
Concerns were particularly expressed that repairs on the borough’s many rural roads could take years to repair.
Peter Maize, environment directorate commissioner at Lancashire County Council, said: “We are aware of the issues and the reason why nothing has been done yet is not being we don’t want to, it’s just there are a number of other issues that are more pressing.
“If we prioritise certain jobs then others will lose out but we are doing out best with the very limited resources that we have available.
“I would encourage you to continue to report any road issues you may have so we can act as soon as possible.”
