AFTER 15 years manning the phones and greeting visitors, the secretary at Stubbins Primary School, Helena Byrne, is taking a well-earned retirement.
Children and staff at the Bolton North Road School said a fond farewell to their bursar at an assembly alongside parents, former staff and the chairman of governors, Philip Dunne.
Following a serenade by the school choir and speeches from senior pupils, Mrs Byrne, who lives in Ramsbottom, was presented with gifts, flowers and a decorated cake.
Working in the office, she developed a warm rapport with children, parents and staff.
She will be spending her retirement enjoying her hobbies, including planning holidays with her husband Denis, with whom she will be celebrating their ruby wedding anniversary.
