The Grim Reaper was at Accrington Stanley today to get the message across to fans that drink driving might mean someone else could be taking them home - in a coffin.

Nearly one in six of all deaths on the road involve drivers who are over the legal alcohol limit.

The Reaper was joined by the team's star striker Paul Mullin, along with Linda Sanderson from the Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety and Chief Inspector Tracie O'Gara of Road Policing, to promote the use of black cabs and public transport when partaking in the Christmas spirit.

Robert Heys, chief executive of Accrington Stanley, said: "We are very proud to support the crucial message of not drinking and driving.

"Enjoying a drink at a match or on the way home is part of our football culture, but we want our fans and players to stay safe to enjoy all our matches.

"Make the right choice about how to get home and don't dice with death."
