JUDGING has started in the hunt to find a borough’s best neighbours.
Almost 70 people have been put forward by others in their communities for prizes in the Good Neighbours Awards organised by Blackburn with Darwen Council and the Lancashire Telegraph.
A host of prizes are on offer including a trip to Wimbledon on finals weekend, meals out, VIP matchday hospitality as a guest of Blackburn Rovers, beauty treatment and vouchers to spend in the Mall.
The nominations range from community-minded schoolchildren as young as 11 to caring pensioners of 90-plus. Blackburn with Darwen Council leader Coun Kate Hollern, chief executive Harry Catherall and Lancashire Telegraph assistant editor Nick Nunn met at the town hall to begin the selection process.
Coun Hollern said: “It is great to see so many people being put forward for such a variety of reasons.
“The number of entries is really heartening but it has made the judges task extremely difficult.”
