A MUSEUM dedicated to the Titanic’s links with Lancashire is looking to move out of the home town of bandmaster Wallace Hartley.
Curator Nigel Hampson has announced that the museum, currently housed in the Old Grammar School in Church Street, Colne, could be relocating to Samlesbury Hall.
But hall bosses say that a deal has not yet been signed for the switch - although discussions have taken place.
Hall director Sharon Jones said: “The decision has not been made yet as the trustees have not yet considered it.
“There is a possibility the museum could be coming and we have been in discussions with Nigel - but nothing has been finalised yet.”
Mr Hampson has been looking for extra room to display his full Titanic collection and wanted to take up three rooms at the grade I listed venue. He has been assisted by a loyal team of volunteers.
Museum supporters were at the heart of last year’s Titanic centenary events in Colne, as Hartley grew up in Albert Road, is buried in the town’s cemetery, and there is a memorial statue near the war memorial.
An appeal was also launched earlier this year to establish a friends group, after the museum began to struggle.
The venue also played host to the famed dress worn by Kate Winslett’s dress which she wore in the 1992 James Cameron blockbuster Titanic.
