A POLICE chief has pledged not to let a minority spoil the derby.
Superintendent Jon Puttock spoke ahead of Burnley FC’s visit to Ewood Park on Sunday.
Up to 4,000 Burnley supporters will be taken by bus to Blackburn from Turf Moor for the 12.30pm kick-off in a bid to keep the fierce rivals separate.
Officers have also urged fans to follow basic crime prevention advice and to park their cars in lit areas, keeping them locked and not to have valuables on show.
Supt Puttock said safety was the police’s main concern ahead of the hugely anticipated match.
He said: “As with previous matches, we have worked extremely closely with Burnley and Blackburn Rovers Football Clubs, as well as the supporters’ clubs, when planning the policing operation for the games.
“Where possible, our plans will replicate those that were put in place for the game at Turf Moor back in December.
“The aim of our operation is to ensure public safety and to get people to and from the ground safely. Extra officers will be on hand to assist supporters attending the match as well as stewards from both clubs.
“It is important to remember very few people attending football matches actually cause problems at the games.
“I want to reassure people who will be at the game that we will not be letting a minority spoil what should be an occasion for all the family to enjoy.”
Supt Puttock said people not attending the game were advised to think about any travel arrangements due to road closures.
He said: “We will have the resources available on the day to deal with any incidents of disorder and people should also be warned that as well as being dealt with on the day we will also look to secure banning orders on offenders.”
There are less than 500 tickets left for Burnley fans to buy on general sale from the 4,000 allocation.
