FOOTBALL fans are being warned to behave ahead of the upcoming derby match.

Police have made the call after 10 fans were either arrested or thrown out of the stadium following the game between Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday.

After the game, which finished 1-0 to Wanderers, six Rovers fans were escorted from the Reebok Stadium by stewards for breaking the stadium rules.

Four other Blackburn fans then felt the strong arm of the law for committing a range of offences.

The four men were arrested by Greater Manchester Police’s tactical aid unit.

One was arrested on suspicion of assault, one for using threatening and offensive language to cause fear and one for a breach of the peace.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police, said: “A small minority of fans acted anti-socially at the recent match between Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers which is a shame for the vast majority of well-behaved fans.

“Anti-social behaviour of this kind will not be tolerated and police will robustly tackle any incidents at the football as this is a family event.”

Lancashire police are now urging fans to be on their best behaviour ahead of the Blackburn Rovers versus Burnley Football Club clash at Ewood Park at noon on Sunday, March 17.

Rovers’ operations director Paul Agnew said: “It is always disappointing to hear of any incidents involving our travelling support leading to ejections and arrests.

“Behaviour of this unsavoury nature will not be tolerated and we have procedures in place to assure that appropriate action is taken.”
