BURNLEY Football Club have reiterated they have a zero tolerance approach to racism after allegations that Blackburn Rovers forward Colin Kazim-Richards was abused during December’s East Lancashire derby at Turf Moor.

The allegations came during a Sky Sports special report on racism in football, when an undercover reporter travelled to a series of Championship matches to assess the issue.

Footage was shown of a series of incidents of racial abuse by Millwall supporters at the New Den, with Leeds and former Blackburn Rovers forward El-Hadji Diouf the main target.

It was also claimed that the reporter heard a spectator direct racial abuse towards Kazim-Richards when Rovers visited Burnley for the derby two months ago.

No complaint was made at the time, and Burnley have urged anyone who witnesses such incidents to report them.

A club statement said: “In society as a whole, we will come across a minority of people who hold views with which most of us strongly disagree.

“This includes those who hold views which are racist, or homophobic.

“Burnley Football Club will not tolerate the expression of racial, or homophobic abuse of any kind.

“We have always urged any supporter who has witnessed this type of behaviour to report it to the club, so that action can be taken.

“Football in general, and Burnley Football Club in particular, have made awareness of the issues associated with racism, and the goal of being inclusive for all, a priority.

“While over two months have elapsed, we would still hope that the person making these allegations will come forward so that the matter can be properly investigated and dealt with,” added the statement.
