WORK to clean up the paddling pool in Sunnyhurst Wood will begin in January.
The Friends of Sunnyhurst Wood have raised the cash needed to remove silt from the pool through Darwen Town Council’s parks committee.
And chairman Dennis Gillibrand said the first phase of work was pencilled in for the new year. Silt from the pool will be removed and taken to a firm in Bolton.
The friends group was successful in an application for £6,000 of funding from the town council, with the cash handed over in September.
The pool has been blighted by silt for years but the council’s new parks committee – which has a £25,000 pot that parks groups can bid for – has come to the rescue.
The pool was historically played in by children and families.
