MUMS on the morning school run have been warned by police to think about what they drank the previous night before they get behind the wheel.
Officers stopping drivers as part of Lancashire police’s annual Christmas drink-drive campaign have been ‘shocked’ by the number of women who have been pulled over and still have alcohol in their system.
The campaign started on December 1 and checkpoints are set up across the county every day.
While very few are being caught over the limit, but officers have issued a warning to parents to think before they drive.
Sgt Claire Pearson said: “It really is alarming the number of women on the school run that we have pulled over for a random stop check who still have alcohol in their systems.
“Although these people are not breaking the law as they are not over the limit, driving with any alcohol in their system significantly increases the chances of being involved in a collision.
“If they are involved in a collision then they are potentially putting their children’s lives at risk.
“I would remind people that if they are drinking the night before they should make alternative arrangements to take the children to school or travel to work as they could still be over the limit.”
If you suspect anyone of drink driving then call police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Lancashire’s new police and crime commissioner Clive Grunshaw joined officers at a police checkpoint early yesterday morning.
