A DARWEN man has admitted carrying out an arson attack on a neighbour’s home.
Sean Cooney appeared at Preston Crown Court yesterday jointly charged with arson with intent to endanger life or recklessly committing arson.
The court heard the 47-year-old set fire to a brown bag containing a lighter fuel aerosol before leaving it at the front door of his neighbour Julie Goring’s home while she was in on June 25, this year.
Luckily, the fire brigade were called and the blaze was put out before it penetrated the house.
Fire damage to the house was limited to the front door of the property.
Cooney, now of Suddell Road, Darwen admitted the lesser charge of committing arson recklessly at an early guilty plea hearing.
He will now receive full credit when it comes to sentencing for admitting the charge at the earliest opportunity.
Judge Christopher Cornwall released Cooney on bail until he is sentenced on February 8 to allow reports to be prepared.
A condition of his bail is that he does not enter Entwistle Street, Darwen or approach any witnesses.
