BUDDING entrepreneurs from Blackburn College discovered the secret to a winning breakfast after they took part in an Apprentice-style challenge.
As part of National Colleges Week, four teams of students went head-to-head in a special breakfast-making task which was designed to test their entrepreneurial skills.
The teams’ brief was to design a breakfast product that could be eaten on the go and would be sold in a service station store.
The students had to pitch their ideas to a panel of expert judges which included entrepreneurs John Gardener, owner of Lancashire Biscuit Company, Simon Brooke, owner of Happy Sweet Shop in Nelson, and Sabiha Patel of the chocolate company Simply Chocolicious.
The winning team, who called themselves Hi5, impressed the judges with their breakfast box idea and the overall quality of their business plan, research and marketing initiatives.
Ian Clinton, principal at Blackburn College, said: “National College Week is a great opportunity for our students to showcase their business savvy talents and both teams really threw themselves into this task.
“This challenge, which was similar to The Apprentice TV show, really tested the students’ business acumen on a variety of different levels.”
