Martina Navratilova is nursing a broken heart, according to a national newspaper.

The former tennis champion reportedly made the decision to take part in I'm A Celebrity... because of her loneliness after splitting with her lover of seven years, Toni Layton-Lambert.

A source close to Martina - who is involved in a legal battle over assets with her former partner - said: "Basically, she has gone in the jungle because she is lonely."

The couple reportedly split seven months ago following a furious row outside their home in Florida.

One neighbour told the Mirror: "Everyone living nearby could hear what was going on.

"They were both out in the street and Martina was yelling at the top of her voice, saying things like, 'I want you out of my life' and 'I never want to see you again.'

"Toni was devastated. She ran down the street in tears.

"She was so totally in love and later told us she had no idea it was coming."
