Semi-Final Week! So five skated for survival last week and we were unfortunate enough to lose Jeff in the skate off!

Once again the programme has been shook up and given a new twist!

The celebrity skaters will dance their routines in a couple … and then take to the ice again and perform a solo piece!

This has never been done before on Dancing on Ice and I think that it is a great addition to the show.

So for both the routines there is a possibility of 60 points up for grabs.

They showed VT’s on the skaters and how they felt about being in the Semi-Final and they were really interesting to watch.

The judges were also commenting in the clips on what they were expecting and how the skaters have done so far. With Sam leading most weeks I think there is the most expectation on Sam’s shoulders.

Kicking off proceedings this week: Chloe Madeley and Michael
Skating Katy Perry’s “Firework” Chloe looked stunning in a white Lycra dress and her hair all curly.

Their big lift worked – Chloe stood on Michael’s stomach and extended forward but unfortunately they had a fall in the later stages of the routine, which was Michael’s fault as he stepped too wide and caught Chloe’s skate.

The routine was packed with lifts but in places it seemed to go from one element to another with a slight lack of performance although the lifts were very nicely done and the in between skating also worked well.

A score of 21 was awarded by the judges, which is a fair score due to the stumble.

Johnson Beharry and Jodeyne
I love that Johnson is still in the programme even though he is the weakest skater in the show.

Audience power is working wonders and they really seem to have got behind him. Skating to “Life Goes On” Johnson skated his most difficult routine so far. The lifts seemed stronger and more confident with him lifting Jodeyne in a spin, across his lap and with her upside down.

Also his skating, although still the weakest, has really improved with him thinking about his lines and extending the legs. A score of 18.5 was fair as the routine was simpler than Chloe’s.

Laura Hamilton and Colin
Laura has been at the top of the table a few times so is fighting for a place in the final!

The main focus of this routine was the Headbanger and she was the first celebrity to start this from a standing position.

They managed this spectacularly with her head only centimeters from the ice surface. She really attacked the programme skating from one lift to another with nice basics and a great performance.

To echo Jason, this was “a semi finalist performance”. I think that this was one of her best skates of the series as it was exciting to watch.

Torvill and Dean then took to the ice skating to Coldplay’s “Yellow” with the background of the ice provided by a sand artist who was absolutely amazing and who kept changing the background as they were skating.

Sam Attwater and Brianne
Skating to “Please Don’t Stop The Music” by Jamie Cullum, Sam also included the Headbanger. It wasn’t as close as Laura’s but still a good move and well controlled. I didn’t enjoy this routine as much as Laura’s and not because of the sedate pace of the music.

I just felt something was missing from the whole thing and it felt a little empty. The tricks were there and the skating was well done as we have come to expect from Sam.

I disagree with Jason who said the press lift was “controlled and well done” – it wasn’t. He struggled to put Brianne above his head and locking out his arms for safety took too long and therefore made him shake as it happened.

Same score as Laura – this doesn’t surprise me as I think the judge’s have earmarked him as their champion for this series.

The Solo Challenge
Skating solo is completely different to working with a partner and past Olympic Champion and Head Judge Robin Cousin held a master class for the celebrities.

The nerves will be there but they will have to channel those so that they work for them and not against them. First up, Chloe took to the ice.

Chloe Madeley
I thought Chloe did really well in the solo skating! She looked great in a red and white dress skating to “That’s Not My Name”. She had a spiral sequence in there and also a one-foot spin and both were done well.

The basic skating was really well done and she had nice speed and flow across the ice although she does look more confident when with Michael but that is only natural.

Johnson Beharry
Another good song choice for Johnson – “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”! This was a charming programme and he skated really well!

It shows just how far he has come with his skating, as he looked secure all the way around and not missing Jodeyne at all!

I disagree with Jason – he did not look unsteady on his feet. He keeps comparing him to the others and will never appreciate what he has done.

Laura Hamilton
Laura attacked the routine skating to “These Boots Are Made For Walking” and really performed it well.

Two three jumps were included and executed well, a cartwheel and some great dancing!

The only thing that needed to improve was the spin as she travelled a little bit during it due to her rushing the entry slightly.

She skated well and it didn’t appear to phase her skating alone.

Sam Attwater
Skating to “Superstition”, Sam attacked this programme and the performance and dance aspect was great.

He does have great control over the tricks that he does but it still annoys me that his backwards skating is so far over his toe picks and this hasn’t been rectified at this stage.

He gained the highest solo score of the night which I expected.

The Skate Off
Johnson and Chloe found themselves in the skate off with Chloe skating first.

No fall this time but the lift wasn’t as strong but she did say that she was much more nervous.

Johnson skated his routine in the same charming way with all the lifts working fine.

It was inevitable but I am so sad that Johnson has left the competition, as he is such a good guy and an inspiration to watch.

So the judges have now got their own way with the three skaters in final being: Sam, Laura and Chloe.

Make sure you tune in next week for the series finale of Dancing on Ice 2011!
