Week 10 and 3 shows away from the Dancing on Ice grand final!
With the finishing line in sight I am sure that the celebrities have been training hard this week for the chance to skate the final routine and have a chance at the main prize!
This week they had the added difficulty of using a prop!
I always find this week entertaining as you never know what will happen and it is not always the usual people at the top of the leader board.
Judging by the VT at the beginning of the show it doesn’t seem to have been an easy week of training!
With hats, chairs, skipping rope, hula-hoops and canes to add some extra pressure it will show who has the ability to cope with these.
Plus they have to incorporate 2 props into their routine and all routines had a story to tell!
To add an extra something to the show all the songs were performed by a live band “The Overtones”.
Torvill and Dean opened the show skating to “Why do fool’s fall in love” with Jayne wearing 50’s style black pedal pushers and bright pink top. They also revealed that some of the professional’s had been having trouble with the props this week!
Sam Attwater and Brianne.
So the hat and a microphone were the chosen props for Sam and the song “Beggin”.
He only dropped the hat once throughout the routine, which was good as the hat can be a little tricky to keep hold of!
Wearing striking red outfits I enjoyed the programme and thought it a marked improvement on last week’s performance.
The main lift with Brianne in the splits upside down worked well and looked confident.
I think that the comments from Jason last week about them changing set steps pushed them harder to make it all work.
It’s a pity that he did drop the hat, as momentarily he looked annoyed. Overall I think it was a good performance but I do think that he could have stepped into the character more.
Johnson Beharry and Jodeyne.
So J and J also had the hat in addition with a parasol and their storyline this week is a man taking a girl out on a date and at the end of the night not wanting her to leave.
The song for this was “Goodnight Sweetheart” once again performed by “The Overtones” who were brilliant.
It was such an endearing routine and Johnson had no trouble at all with his props!
He also managed a roll up lift with Jodeyne who was holding the umbrella.
He achieved 19.5 which is his highest score yet and thoroughly deserved.
The audience thought he should have got more but his skating was slightly rough around the edges, which lowered them slightly.
His prop work was certainly brilliant!
Laura Hamilton and Colin.
A chair and cane was picked for Laura this week who must have been on a high after winning last weeks team challenge and also gaining the highest score of the series.
Skating to “Rolling in the Deep” she really threw herself into the “angry girl” character but in some parts I think she over did it slightly.
Some of the moves weren’t as crisp as I would have liked to have seen and there was a slight stutter at the end when she finishing on the chair.
The butterflies, which were done holding the cane with Colin didn’t have the best landing due to lack of spring into the air, which caused them to look awkward.
The lift in which Laura cartwheeled up over the cane was effective and looked really nice. She performed really well and the props didn’t defeat her!
Jeff Brazier and Isabelle.
Almost a whole kitchen was ordered for Jeff this week!
Tables and chairs were the chosen props and the story line was a “domestic argument”. Love it!
I have to say that Jeff was a little unsteady on his skates, which was such a pity as he is now starting to overtake Sam in the technical difficulty on most moves.
He did a fantastic star lift, which he managed with one hand, which is a lift most competitive pair couples do.
He dropped a chair once but I really enjoyed watching him skate as I always do.
I do feel because Sam’s performance is stronger he gets the credit over Jeff (a problem with having two none skaters on the judging panel?).
I hope in the coming weeks he gains more confidence and his skating starts to shine through.
Chloe Madeley and Michael.
Chloe had the most difficult props of the week: a skipping rope and a hula-hoop!
The VT of her week showed her struggling with both of these and Chloe seemed to get more and more frustrated with them.
I loved the song choice “Only girl in the world” and her outfit was a pink tutu!
She didn’t seem to have any issues with the props so it all seemed to work out okay for her!
She managed to get 9.0 across the board, which put her at the top this week and she really earned her place there!
The lift with her in the hoop looked great and they interacted well.
It was an enjoyable routine to watch and deserved to be number 1.
Skate Off.
So surprisingly Jeff and Sam got the lowest votes this week and were in the skate off.
Jeff was up first and skated a much more assured performance with no slip-ups with the props.
Sam skated well also and seemed more at ease during his second skate.
As I guessed Sam was the one that they saved and it didn’t surprise me in the slightest.
I do think Jeff has made the biggest improvement out of all the competitors and should be majorly praised for that.
He will be missed next week and I am sad that he has gone.
Next week: SEMI FINALS!
