So the celebrities came out one by one with their partners and presented themselves to the audience and I have to say were some interesting costumes on display!
They left me wondering what music their routines were set to!
First up:
Chloe Madeley and Michael
Chloe has a stunning figure and the lace cat suit she was sporting looked fabulous! Skating to “I love Rock and Roll” she skated off on her own to start the programme very confidently.
She seems to have no fear with all the lifts and her basic skating skills are to a high standard.
I would like to see a little more refinement on the skating – slightly more extension and toe pointing – but that will come with practice and perhaps the slightly “rough edges” which she had worked with the music she skated to.
The highlight for me was the “neck spin” at the end as it was fast and confident.
Johnson Beharry and Jodeyne
So Johnson took Jason’s advice and went to take dance lessons to help with his movement. His on the spot dancing had certainly improved and the routine also had slightly more difficult lifts this week, still going in a straight line but with Jodeyne in different positions. He also skated more on his own this week, which was nice to see. He does need to work on his skating making it stronger and smoother but I really love watching him. A score of 13 is probably about right.
Jeff Brazier and Isabelle
Oh no! Jeff looked slightly wobbly when setting off skating and fell on a spiral, which was being performed with Isabelle. She also fell to the ice but is more equipped to dealing with those types of incidents.
It wasn’t a bad fall but they can shake you up but I thought he dealt with it well and got straight up and did a big lift.
I do think he will be kicking himself for the fall as a score of 12.5 could have been a lot higher.
Kerry Katona and Daniel
I thought the song choice was slightly ironic this week – “Disturbia” by Rihanna.
A funky piece of music though which was reflected in her costume – a purple cat suit which really flattered her figure.
Kerry’s on the spot dancing was brilliant, very edgy and sharp with great facial expression to match the music.
I would love to see her move faster over the ice but her basic skating isn’t as advanced as some of the competitors although, when skating with Dan, this is covered up very well.
She hits great positions during the lifts but for me, I really need to see her basic skills start to improve.
Vanilla Ice and Katie
This week Rob had a very bad fall in practice, which resulted in him hitting his face and splitting his eyebrow. Quite traumatic and it’s bound to affect his confidence in an adverse way.
I love how he sings the words as he skates around the ice! Skating to a ballad, which again, is out of his comfort zone, he managed a very difficult drape lift where Katie is lifted over his head with one hand.
He needs to refine his skating as he can be on the toe picks sometimes, which affects the flow of movement.
Having said that he was courageous going out to skate after the shock of the fall and he deserved his score of 16.
Dominic Cork and Alexandra
Firstly, I didn’t understand the relevance of the union jack outfits that Dominic and Alexandra were wearing.
I thought it would have been a spice girls song but it was “I can see for miles”. If anyone can help me with the relevance please do!
Dominic seems a lovely person but he moves very awkwardly across the ice. Being slightly round-shouldered doesn’t help with his presentation and his basic skating can be a little shaky although it has got slightly better. The lifts are still basic compared to others but he is progressing, although more work needs to be done on the performance aspect.
Laura Hamilton and Colin
I have to be brutally honest – I hated the costume. I know it’s not about her skating but it’s a whole package that you look at and it really wasn’t flattering for her figure. Come on DOI costume department sort it out! Having said that her skating was great and apart from the wobble at the end during the “wrist gripper” it was a fabulous performance.
She has no problem acting a part, the lifts are strong and she extends her legs well. Being very picky I would say that her crossovers need slightly more knee bend to stop the toe pick catching and slowing her down, but this will come with practice.
A score of 20 was a good reflection on Laura’s routine.
Jennifer and Sylvain
Now, Jennifer’s costume really suited her! She looked stunning on the tonight, very classic. Her skating has definitely improved and she skates with confidence. The lifts are strong and thought has gone into the finer details like the leg lines and arm positions.
I do think she needs slightly more turn out with her foot to really finish the positions off. She connects very well with Sylvain and as a couple they look very strong across the ice. I would like to see Jennifer skate on her own more as I think she has the ability to do this.
Denise Welch and Matt
Denise flashed her knickers in the VT – which is apparently quite tame if you listen to her tales on Loose Women! The dress she was wearing suited her so much better than her cat suit last week.
Skating to “Slow” this tempo of music suited her much better and I thought the performance aspect of the routine had improved this week.
Her skating does still need working on but it has got better and she is flying the flag for the mature ladies – which is great for the sport as it’s something which can be enjoyed by everyone.
Sam Attwater and Brianne
Although a good performance I don’t think that this was Sam’s best week.
Having a shoulder injury was evident on the big overhead lift as he had a slight problem putting Brianne back on the ice at the end.
They also had assisted 3 jumps in the programme, which is a 180 rotation jumping from the left foot to the right but Sam’s was slightly under rotated and he stumbled which again detracted from the routine.
He got the same score as last week but I would have reduced it slightly as I know he can do much, much better.
Dave Vitty and Frankie
I love that Comedy Dave is skating to “Achy Breaky Heart” and has a cowboy theme!
There where lots of moves on two feet and plain, basic forward skating which lessened the difficulty. There was a lift, which went well, and some assisted moves but it wasn’t the most complicated skating routine that we have seen, or will see.
The beauty of watching Comedy Dave is that he lives up to his name and it’s so enjoyable to watch! If there is a character to get into he seems to perform better.
And so, after a break we went to the skate off. Jeff and Isabelle and Dominic and Alexandra were the two chosen couples to skate again.
Jeff went first and this time had no problem at all with the spiral. In fact the whole performance looked more relaxed and smooth. Dominic skated well also and really seemed to enjoy skating his routine the second time around.
And so we went to “The Ice Pick”.
One by one, the stars came out and revealed their decision of why they saved a certain couple. This was quite a difficult one, I wouldn’t have been able to do it as picking one person over another seems a little nasty.
A decision was made at 5 to 1 to Jeff so he was the person to go through but after all of the skaters had come out the scoring ended up 5 to Jeff and 3 to Dominic.
It seems sad to lose Dominic but he was very gracious in defeat – a typical athlete!
Next week the theme is “Las Vegas” and a new skill will be learnt! See you next week at 6.30pm!
