Star of the Dutch Dancing on Ice and former British Figure Skating Champion, Blackburn's Dannielle Guppy gives her view on the latest Dancing on Ice series.
Here come the girls! Week two of Dancing on Ice and it was the turn of the glitter-laden ladies!
The professionals skating to the Spice Girls was a brilliant way to open the show and put greater emphasis on the theme of girl power!
After the introduction of the judges (and the usual pantomime with Jason – boo!) the first couple stepped onto the ice.
Roxanne Pallett and Daniel
Music: Rihanna – Take A Bow: Roxanne is lucky being coupled with Daniel as he always brings out the best in his partners. Roxanne did well considering it is only the first week. She showed off her acting skills with dramatic movements and she moves her body well. She was a little stiff in her knees when skating around but maybe that was down to nerves.
Melinda Messenger and Fred
Music: Sara Bareilles - Love Song: I have to start by saying that Melinda dwelling on comments which Jason has made will not help her progress. Having made that point though, I liked her routine! She smiled throughout giving her a great presence on the ice. The routine was quite fast paced with moves being linked together very quickly with nice leg extensions to finish. Having said that, she does need to point her toes to refine those stretches and also get down into her knees to make her skating look softer.
Coleen Nolan and Stuart
Music: Mama Cass Elliot – Dream a Little Dream: I was interested in watching Coleen as last week she seemed to really put herself down and did so again in the video clip before her skate. But I thought she did really well! It’s not easy to get out there and skate after only a couple of months training and she really needs to look at the positives and gain confidence from that. She has achieved a lot in a short space time and she can only get better.
Zoe Salmon and Matt
Music: Whitney Houston – I Wanna Dance with Somebody: I LOVED Zoe’s dress! It made an impact as soon as she stepped out of the doors and looked amazing. She smiled all the way through it and showed that she really enjoyed being out there. She was an equal in the partnership rather than being pushed around by Matt and I’m excited to see her again next week!
Gemma Bissex and Andrei
Music: Celine Dion - The Power of Love: I thought that Gemma had a great turn out of the foot and her leg extensions looked great. Out of the two soap girls, I thought that she was the strongest. She needed to stop being hard on herself as it was only the first week, but I liked her drive to succeed. A little more practice on the basics to get them stronger and to build the confidence and I think that Gemma would have been fine.
Jessica Taylor and Pavel
Music: Madonna – La Isla Bonita: Wow! I was so impressed with Jessica and I want her to get to the final. She skated with confidence, her moves flowed, her presentation was good and she got into character with the music. The moves in the routine were difficult but she managed them with ease. She got the top scores of the night and she deserved every one of them. Jessica is definitely the girl to beat!
The Skate-Off
Melinda and Gemma had to perform to save their place in the competition. I thought both couples skated much better.
I’m really glad Melinda stayed as her presence was gorgeous on the ice, especially in the second performance.
It is sad to see Gemma go as she had a fighting attitude but she can be very proud of what she has achieved.
Next week will be the men and the ladies in direct competition so it will be interesting to see who comes out on top!
