It is quarter finals week, where our six remaining couples get to dance their routine and also compete in the Waltz-A-Thon which is just like a tradition Waltz competition, so not only does it mean more work for our celebrities but more to remember, this will help sort the wheat from the chaff.
Simon & Kristina American Smooth (Foxtrot) C8 D9 L9 B9 T35
Simon has definitely come into his own in the competition, he has great form, great style, amazing footwork and top line. He really does look as if he has been dancing Ballroom for years. I would have scored you a ten Simon.
Caroline & Pasha Argentine Tango C9 D10 L10 B10 T39
WOW!
How intense was their performance? I had to blink several times to remember I was watching a celebrity and a professional. I felt like I was watching Vincent & Flavia. This performance was fit for any competition floor, with perfect choreography, perfect styling, perfect technique in fact it was absolutely perfect for me.
Pixie & Trent Cha Cha C9 D9 L8 B9 T35
Pixie has a great leg line, however it was not consistent throughout the routine, there was a lot of good moves but for me I would have preferred to see a little more advanced choreography as Pixie is more than capable.
The hip action in the Cha Cha is created from the bending and straightening of the knees, however only one knee should be bent at any one time and Pixie has a tendency to either be completely locked up in the legs or shuffling round with both knees flexed, Keep going Pixie but maybe this week you could spend a little more time on the technique especially with your dances being the Foxtrot and Salsa.
Mark & Karen Foxtrot C8 D9 L9 B9 T35
Mark has good shaping, style footwork this week, however I found the choreography quite American Smooth in styling and there was a couple of times when his feet came together especially when he danced his reverse wave, but it was a very light and confident performance.
Jake & Janette Charleston C9 D9 L10 B10 T38
A routine fit for any big top, a quirky clever Charleston routine with very exciting choreography, that had obviously been rehearsed over and over again.
Frankie & Kevin Salsa C8 D9 L8 B9 T34
There was some very adventurous tricks and lifts in their routine this week, that sometimes was not quite true on the transitions and the technique just slipped a little, there was a great energy level though within the dance sections, but for me I would have preferred to see a little more Salsa figures, but what another amazing performance.
Waltz-A-Thon A true competitive Waltz, that was actually quite difficult to judge due to the overhead camera shots, that did take me back to when I competed on Come Dancing! But I did not agree completely with the judges results as I thought Caroline and Pasha looked the best on the floor.
Judges Results
1st Pixie & Trent
2nd Frankie & Kevin
3rd Simon & Kristina
4th Caroline & Pasha
5th Mark & Karen
6th Jake & Janette
Sunday result show
It really is anyone’s game and must have been the closest quarter finals we have ever been graced with on Strictly, but with Pixie & Trent and Simon & Kristina in the dreaded dance off, and neither couple deserved to be there and for me there was only one winner who technically performed there routine cleaner and more precise and that was Simon & Kristina who fortunately we see them perform in the Semi Finals. Pixie you will be sadly missed and I hope you stay dancing.
