Week five already!
And have our celebrities had a week from hell or a week of bliss in the rehearsal studio? With another new dance to master who is hot and who is not?
Jake & Janette Quickstep C7 D8 L8 B8 T31
A very convincing quickstep from our Jake, with plenty of clean recognisable figures, there were however a few little footwork issues and his hold was a little too high for me, but a very well danced performance.
Sunetra & Brendan Viennese Waltz C7 D7 L8 B8 T30
Beautifully dramatised performance, with beautiful shaping and finished arm lines, overall a very smooth Viennese, I am not too sure if it was the camera wobbling towards the end of their performance or Sunetra slightly tiring, but a very well driven routine.
Scott & Joanne Charleston C4 D5 L5 B5 T19
Although a very lively Charleston, Scott was quite heavy footed and his lower half never really got going, his top half was very enthusiastic and fluid but for me it was not one of Scott’s best performances.
Thom & Iveta Cha Cha C6 D7 L7 B7 T27
Thom is still one of my favourite celebrities so far, but I was slightly disappointed with his Cha Cha, he was a little stompy in places and not as careful in his foot placing as he has been in recent weeks, so come on Thom, up the anti!
Frankie & Kevin Foxtrot C8 D8 L8 B8 T32
I love these two and they make me smile every time is see them dance, I have seen a improvement in Kevin’s styling since dancing with Frankie which is lovely to see, I personally would have preferred to see a few more heel leads from Frankie but a very light and fluid performance.
Alison & Aljaz Tango C5 D6 L6 B6 T23
Alison brings a great level of spirited enthusiasm floor and although she is still dancing quite flat footed, her Strictly journey is still motivating for the more curvaceous that think dancing is not for them. The Tango was not really her dance though as she has performed with more passion and power in previous weeks.
Mark & Karen Samba C8 D9 L8 B8 T33
Great use of the hips from Mark, with a great lively fluid Samba. There were however several heel leads and he was a little pigeon toed on the Samba walks but having said that it was a great job.
Simon & Kristina Viennese Waltz C7 D7 L7 B7 T28
Simon has a very strong top line and very strong rotary turns which is what gives the Viennese Waltz its effortless look, (which it isn’t) his musicality was one of the best I have seen from a male celebrity in this dance style for some time.
Judy & Anton Charleston C3 D5 L5 B5 T18
For me this was Judy’s best dance yet, a great lively performance, her basic Charleston six step could have had more of the famous swivelling action but it was fun and fresh.
Caroline & Pasha Paso Doblé C8 D9 L8 B9 T34
A very dramatically performed Paso that was full of passion and poise, Caroline uses all of her body to tell the story and to express the music, which made the routine a very technically complete effort.
Steve & Ola Waltz C7 D8 L7 B8 T30
Steve looked very confident in this routine, there were a few strange step patterns that I was not too sure if they were for dramatic effect or if Steve was stumbling slightly, but overall a well controlled fluid Waltz.
Pixie & Trent Samba C8 D9 L9 B9 T35
Pixie just amazes me every week, her interpretation of the dance style is so on the money, they really are such a well matched couple and perform together as if they have been dancing together for years.
Sunday results show
A Country And Western opening from our professional dancers, which was a bit of a blast from the past! But with Tom & Iveta (what?) and Simon & Kristina (what?) both in the dreaded dance off, there could be only one couple who successfully made it through to the Halloween Special next week.
Both couples performed better and even though neither of them deserved to be there, we see Simon & Kristina through to next week, which I think was the right decision and with Len using his casting vote as head judge it proves how very very close it was.
