THE Pendle Witches are set to return to East Lancashire next month in an enthralling and thought-provoking production at Darwen Library Theatre.
Cold Light Singing, written by Yvonne Pinnington from Nelson, has been receiving great acclaim since it was first performed at the Edinburgh Festival two years ago.
Now the play which follows the stories of three of those accused of witchcraft almost 400 years ago will be performed in East Lancashire for the first time by Function Factory Theatre.
Although set in 1612, theatregoers will find that the play has an incredible resonance for a modern audience.
"Even before I wrote the play I wanted to do something that involved the suspicion that surrounds people with alternative religious beliefs, and unfair imprisonment," said Yvonne. "It is definitely not just a historical work."
The same cast has been involved with the production from its first perrformance and includes Yvonne herself, Mary-Ann Coburn, Sarah Oldknow and Damian Christian.
Cold Light Singing, Darwen Library Theatre, Friday, June 23. Details from the box office on 01254 706006
