The door is still open for Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen to join the Full House reunion, star Candace Cameron Bure has said.
The twins, who shared the role of Michelle Tanner on the hit sitcom between 1987 and 1995, now have a successful fashion empire and did not return for the Netflix reunion, entitled Fuller House.
Candace, who plays DJ Tanner, said the new series will see John Stamos jokingly encourage Michelle to come home but added: “I don’t think we ever really think about it that much, it’s more of a fun little poke to the audience but the door is always open to them if they want to.”
She told the Press Association: “It doesn’t feel like anything is missing because we talk about Michelle and sometimes we don’t see our relatives for a long time, maybe they live somewhere else, they are out of town or they are that busy person you never co-ordinate with so she’s not forgotten.
“She’s very much a part of the family so I don’t feel like we are missing anyone and we have so many people in the house it’s pretty full.”
The second series of Fuller House will see original stars John Stamos, Bob Saget and Lori Loughlin return for another three episodes, after three appearances in the first series.
Candace said: “Season two revolves around the holidays and that is the perfect time when they come in because it’s natural, that is when you see most of your extended family, so we celebrate Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
“We have been friends forever, we have never not been friends and not hung out together but when we all get together and work it’s like chaotic, it’s so much fun and crazy but it’s so many people in that house that Lord knows how we even get the show done because it’s hard to concentrate, in a good way.”
While the show brings the Tanner family into the 21st century after they became beloved characters in the 1980s and 90s, Candace said the heart of the show remains the same.
She said: “I think it is what the original show was, it is just about the heart and it’s about family and relationships so you can never get bored of watching those because they are always growing and interesting.
“People come in and out of your life and so this is just another family that we get to watch through the years.
“We keep saying we hope there is a Fullest House after this one, our kids growing up and it might start over again.”
The second series will feature an appearance from boyband New Kids On The Block, which brought back plenty of teenage memories for the cast.
Candace revealed: “That for sure was my favourite episode of this season because it was so personal to me.
“It seems so silly but anyone knows if you are such a big fan of something or someone and for me growing up it was New Kids On The Block.
“I was such a huge fan and so was Andrea Barber (her co-star), it really was a dream for them to come on the show. They were so great and really fun they were really good and the whole episode was fun to film but when I watched it back I cried, not because it was sad but because it meant so much to me.
“All my little 13 year old dreams came true.”
The second series of Fuller House will stream on Netflix on December 9.
