WATCHING a play featuring a teenage motormouth while nursing a stinking cold was, at times, something of an endurance test.

That aside, I have to say I really enjoyed Bunny, currently playing at the Royal Exchange Studio.

A monologue, vividly written by Jack Thorne, it tells the story of Katie, a young woman who comes to realise that you can shape the future and you don’t have to be beholding to others.

Jack Thorne’s script allows you to viisualise the other characters in your head and Rosie Wyatt gives her all as young Katie.

But I couldn’t, for the life of me, work out why Katie is asked to sacrifice a rather intimate item of clothing.

Bunny isn’t life changing stuff but it does remind you what it was like to be young, angry and perplexed at the strange behaviour of grown ups.

The deliberately childish animation at the back of the stage provide a nice contrast to the strong language that peppers a well constructed script.

If there are any young people out there who still think live theatre is uncool, Bunny is the sort of play that can change minds. In parts, Bunny is very funny too.
