It will take you between 20 and 30 hours to complete but we will tell you now, you will adore pretty much every minute of that time.
While the debut game, The Witcher, was utterly superb and a real surprise when it was launched a few years ago, this sequel raises the bar, not only in the visuals, but also the plot and script.
There is a sense you are inhabiting a real world with quests that have incredible depth.
If there are letdowns, its in the combat system.
Combat is an acquired taste where you’ll have to carefully suss out your enemy’s strengths and weaknesses before flying into battle, but the rewards for a tactical approach are well worth it.
Thankfully, you don’t have to have played The Witcher to get to grips with this second game, although you may wonder what is going on when it gets under way.
That said, it’s a brand spanking new story and, in a world that’s dominated by incredible console conquests these days, it’s great to see the PC platform fight back with the kind of exclusive RPG that once made it the only choice for those wanting a mature gaming experience.
You’re tossed straight back into Geralt of Rivia’s mysterious world of king killings, peasant uprisings and everything in between.
And, provided you’ve got a pretty top-spec PC, the graphics are simply to-die-for in this vast virtual universe.
The Witcher 2 pulls no punches in being a difficult, adult RPG title, but if that’s what floats your boat, this is up there with the best.
